Vintage 2015
Wine Type Red
Varietal Red Wine Blend
Region Napa Valley
Winemaker Christophe Paubert

Rich in blackberry and blueberry with a lingering hint of baking spice, this estate grown wine is big and dense but with the signature elegance of our Stags’ Leap vineyards.

During the rainy season, small “falls” cascade down the Stags Leap palisades, which are the backdrop to the estate. On any given winter day, the winery staff have counted up to twelve visible falls at one time.

94+ Points - Wine Advocate

“The 2015 Proprietary Red Twelve Falls Estate is blended of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Petite Sirah, 9% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec, aged 18 months in 62% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Proprietary Red Twelve Falls Estate gives a very meaty/savory nose of charcuterie, peppered salami, black truffles, dried herbs and chargrill over a core of warm plums and cassis with touches of black tea and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm foundation of ripe, grainy tannins and layers of decadent black fruits, finishing on a lingering savory note.” - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, October 29, 2018

94 Points -

"This is very of-the-region with the Stags Leap District spice, wet earth and dark berry character. Full body, yet linear and tight with plenty of structure and depth. Already fascinating to drink but better in 2020." - James Suckling, January 2018

Vineyard Note

Crafted as an ode to our own Stags’ Leap Winery Estate Vineyards, Twelve Falls is a red blend that beautifully mimics the varietal composition of these plantings. Year after year, the blocks surrounding the historic Manor House produce 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Petite Sirah and 10% Merlot fruit, and the elegant Twelve Falls is a perfect reflection of this assemblage. This tribute red blend showcases a barrel selection of estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and Petite Sirah from Block 4. This hand selected Petite Sirah block consistently produces fruit most expressive of the varietal’s classic floral, spicy and blue fruit characteristics.

Winemaking Notes

Maceration followed suit for each of the three varieties, which allowed Winemaker Christophe Paubert to monitor and evaluate each lot individually, coaxing each variety to its maximum potential. The Cabernet Sauvignon fermented and aged in high quality new French oak barrels for 18 months. The Merlot went to seasoned French oak and the Petite Sirah in neutral American oak. The final assemblage was blended just prior to bottling and consists of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Petite Sirah, 9% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec.
