Our 2023 Napa Valley Petite Sirah is powerful and dynamic, delivering a richly concentrated and spice-laden expression with remarkable depth and character. Aromas leap from the glass with notes of crushed violets, dark brambleberry fruit, and black cherry layered alongside hints of cracked pepper, savory herbs, and sun-soaked earth. Beneath the exuberant fruit lies a subtle gamey nuance that adds intrigue and complexity.The palate is expansive and richly textured, offering generous flavors of blackberries, ripe dark plum, black raspberry, and a touch of dried fig. Full-bodied yet polished, the wine carries impressive weight while maintaining freshness,lift and buoyancy. Accents of toasted oak weave seamlessly throughout, bringing in cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla beanand cedarwood that deepen the wine’s layered profile.A rustic elegance emerges through notes of forest floor, dried rose petals, and floral violet, lending nuance to the wine’s dense core of black and purple fruit. Supple, rounded tannins provide structure and generosity without overwhelming the fruit. The finish is long, savory, and deeply satisfying, echoingthe dark berries, spice, and earthy floral tones found throughout, lasting long after the final sip.

Continuing the same time-honored techniques that have made Petite Sirah one of our winery’s staples, our winemakers practiced simple and traditional methods to show the uniqueness of the Petite Sirah fruit. Avoiding over extraction, the wine went through a relatively short maceration period (9-12 days on average) that included fermentation. The wine aged for 15 months in American oak barrels (20% new), allowing the spiciness of the oak to complement the natural spice character of the varietal.
Our winemakers carefully selected the best fruit from across Napa Valley to highlight the beauty of Petite Sirah for this vintage, sourcing from northern vineyards as far up as Calistoga, as well as a handful of mid-valley vineyards throughout the valley, all the way to more southerly vineyards in Coombsville. This vineyard sourcing creates flavor intensity and broadens the wine’s profile, with hints of floral, spice and fruit-forward characteristics. Petite Sirah is a varietal that is particularly enhanced by the deliberate diversity of these varied vineyard sites.

Our 2023 Vintage
2023 delivered one of the most prolonged and compact harvest seasons in recent years within the Napa Valley. The extended growing season delayed the start of harvest until the fifth of September—a notable two and a half weeks later than the previous year. This posed a logistical challenge in the cellar as tanks quickly filled and there was concern about completing harvest before the onset of the rainy season. Despite the challenges, our winemaking team rose to the occasion, and the 2023 harvest season delivered a bountiful yield of exceptional quality fruit. The grapes displayed intense color and complex flavors, maintaining a vibrant acidity that adds a distinctive character to what is sure to be remembered as a wine collector’s vintage.
