Stags’ Leap estate wines are especially concentrated because of the purposely low fruit yields of our estate vineyards. The 2022 Twelve Falls Estate Grown Red Wine evinces this in a beautifully saturated, deep purple color. Its fresh, red fruit aromas are sprinkled with rosemary, lavender, and thyme herbal notes, and grounded in the mushroom earthiness of a misty forest grove. Bright red and darker black fruit appear on the intensely juicy palate, which displays a muscular body and exquisitely well-balanced structure. Bold, fine-grained tannins bear the bright and savory fruit through a long, persistent finish. Though this wine might benefit from 15-20 years of cellar aging, it can be enjoyed now paired with hearty dishes such as cassoulet, beef bourguignon, coq au vin, or vegan chili.

Twelve Falls is a special, select blend of the finest blocks in the 2022 vintage, representing the best
of the winery. Lots were kept separate throughout fermentation and aging, allowing our winemakers
to evaluate each individually, coaxing them to maximum potential and complexity. The lots were
aged in French oak barrels (40% new) for 19 months and blended just prior to bottling.
During the rainy season, waterfalls cascade down the Stags Leap palisades, which are the backdrop
to the estate. On any given winter day, winery staff may spot up to twelve visible falls at one time.
Twelve Falls Estate Red Wine is a tribute to our own Stags’ Leap Winery Estate Vineyards and
blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec in proportions equal to
the plantings of these varieties in our estate vineyard. Complex and exquisitely balanced, this wine
celebrates the nexus of vine, soil and water, reflecting the essence of our historic property.

Our 2022 Vintage
The first half of the 2022 harvest started calm and early, with healthy vineyards offering fruit with
bright acidity, fruit-forward flavors, and strong yields for white varietals and thin-skinned reds, like
Pinot Noir. Then, California experienced a historic heat wave in early September that ramped up the pace of ripening, compelling a fast and furious harvest as winemakers worked to pick fruit at its best quality. Fortunately, strong vines and proactive irrigation helped many vineyards survive the heat. The second half was much more predictable with cooler temperatures through October, so that later-ripening red varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, could develop their full flavor and tannin profile.
