Tasting Notes

The 2023 Amparo Rosé presents a beautiful watermelon-pink hue. The nose is greeted with vibrant aromas of fresh cherry, strawberry crème, and white nectarine, intertwined with a delicate rose-petal perfume. On the palate, this Rosé dances with bright Bing cherry, red raspberry, and exotic orange blossom notes, supported by a lithe, mouthwatering texture. The extended hang time from the 2023 growing season contributes to the wine’s freshness, purity, and elegant finish, making it a standout in this memorable vintage.

Winemaking

After a 24-hour maceration period to extract color and flavor, the juice was gently “bled” off the skins using the traditional saignée method. Fermentation occurred in neutral oak barrels to capture the varietal’s natural acidity and delicate fruit flavors. The wine was then racked off the lees to preserve its freshness and aged for four months in neutral oak barrels.

Vintage

The 2023 growing season in Napa Valley was characterized by consistent, mild weather and one of the longest growing seasons in recent memory. This vintage saw above-average crop yields and extended hang time, resulting in an exceptional, high-quality year. Winter and spring rains provided full reservoirs and healthy soils, while the mild summer weather supported healthy canopy growth and slow, even ripening. The result was a vintage with purity, elegance, and optimal ripeness.

Vineyard

The 2023 Amparo Rosé is crafted predominantly from Grenache grapes sourced from the mid-valley Gamble Ranch Vineyard in Oakville, known for its rocky soil that imparts intensity to the fruit. Additional Grenache grapes are sourced from the Frediani Vineyard in Calistoga, which consistently produces refined Grenache due to its warm climate.
