A classic, light straw color, the Stags Leap 2024 Barrel Selection Chardonnay opens in a warm embrace of patisserie and nutty wood scents redolent of fresh-baked brioche, chopped hazelnuts, cardamom, delicate lemon blossom, and sweet oak. This delightful, aromatic richness is met on the palate by a floral honeysuckle character and a welcome, unctuous creaminess. Bright acidity enlivens yellow plum, white cherry, lemon meringue, and yuzu flavors, and lets this fruit shine through a finish touched with walnut, almond, and melon notes. Enjoy this radiant, polished Chardonnay with creamy risotto or pasta, schnitzel and a lemon-caper butter sauce, or Waldorf salad.

The Barrel Selection Chardonnay is a small bottling of the most expressive barrel lots in a given vintage. The wine was fermented and aged in French oak (48% new) to preserve the purity and freshness of the fruit while adding subtle notes of oak complexity. To further maintain the fruit’s
natural acidity and aromatic freshness, this Chardonnay did not undergo malolactic fermentation. The wine was bottled after 7 months of maturation with bi-weekly bâtonnage, which released subtle aromatics while increasing the complexity and mouthfeel.
Our Chardonnay is sourced from cooler southern Napa Valley appellations, where the San Pablo Bay fog cools the vineyards throughout the growing season, allowing for ideal preservation of freshness, acidity, and vibrancy. Most of the fruit comes from Carneros, which provides citrus, mineral, and crisp apple notes. A small percentage is from Oak Knoll, which contributes more tropical and stone fruit characteristics.

Our 2024 Vintage
The 2024 vintage will be remembered as a more “normal” or textbook year. Heavy winter rains provided much-needed soil moisture, supporting healthy canopy growth and resilient vines capable of enduring Napa Valley’s temperature fluctuations. Harvest began in late August at a moderate pace through September, with rising temperatures accelerating the process into early October. Yields were generally average to slightly above average. This vintage will be celebrated for years to come, with white wines displaying remarkable brightness and depth of flavor, while red wines showcase strong character, deep color, bold tannins, and an appealing phenolic profile.
