A sweet spot for Merlot vines inherits sediment washed off the Stags Leap Palisades
2002 Estate Grown Merlot, Coyotes’ Run
The Stags’ Leap Estate has a sweet spot for Merlot vines, located in the bowl of the valley where volcanic sediment that washes down off the Stags Leap Palisades mingles with alluvial loam. Farming these blocks over the years, winemaker Kevin Morrisey has developed a winegrowing program that results in Merlots of firm tannic structure with rich fruit flavor, pleasurable aromatics, and a long finish.
